List of Love Quotes

"We must love one another or die."
This quote by W. H. Auden from the poem "September 1, 1939" is beautiful and inspirational. It is attempting to convey the notion that we as people must create a sense of community, and love each other, or our society will completely fall apart.
"When love is suppressed, Hate takes its place."
From Havelock Ellis's essay "The Meaning of Purity", this quote signifies that if we suppress love, if we hide it away, it is easier for hatred to become abundant not only in our personal lives, but in society and in the world as well.
"Love, the Answer to the Problem of Human Existence."
This quote is from "The Art of Loving" by Erich Fromm. It is apparent to those who have lived a significant portion of life that a life without love is terrible. The answer to the "problem of human existence" would thenbe love, for if we have love, we are rich on earth.
"Love never claims, it ever gives."
From Mohandas K. Gandhi, this quote signifies that love is not selfish. True love gives of itself without keeping track of what it has given. If we attempt to ask for love, it's not true love we will find. Love can easily be found when we attempt only to give it and live a loving life, rather than trying to accumulate all that we can.
"Love rules his kingdom without a sword."
This quote from George Herbert's "Outlandish Proverbs" is great. It means that those who rule in a loving way, who show love and respect to their subjects, do not need to intimidate or threaten in order to be a great leader. This can apply to our world leaders or even just to parental guidance.
"There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear."
From the Bible, in I John 4:18, this quote speaks to those who are perhaps in relationships where they fear their partners. Often in abusive relationships, fear is put into one of the people in the relationship so that they fear either abuse from their partner if they do not behave as they're asked, or they are taught to fear that without their partner they will never find love again. This is not real love, for as we see in this quote, true love does not induce a fearful environment.
"Love doesn't make the world go 'round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile."
By Franklin P. Jones, this quote is saying that while love is not all there is in life, it is wise to live a life full of love in order to feel like life is worthwhile. That means that if we live with love, we will experience far more fulfillment in life than if we live with hatred or even neutrality.
"Where love is, no disguise can hide it for long; where it is not, none can simulate it."
La Rochefoucauld's "Maxims" features this quote. It means that true love cannot be hidden forever and will reveal itself even when attempted to be hidden. However, love that is faked can never truly be significant because it cannot truly become like real love.
"Whatever is done from love always occurs beyond good and evil."
Friedrich Nietzsche wrote this in "Beyond Good and Evil". What I believe he is trying to say that there is no right or wrong in love. While some things may be "black and white", love is a gray area where actions and emotions are beyond what is right and what is wrong. Perhaps this is because love is always right, and anything done with true love cannot have a bad intention.
"Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, and hopes all things."
Another Biblical quote, from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, this is arguably the greatest love quote of all time. It attepmts to teach how to act and live with love.
